This is a standard Jersey Safeguarding Partnership Board course and is not tailored for sports. You may need to check with your national governing body to ensure it meets your sport’s requirements.

Audience

This course is intended for everyone who works with adults at risk either in a professional or voluntary capacity.

Aim

The aim of this course is to raise participant’s awareness of the risks to adults at risk through abuse, and for them to gain an understanding of their role and responsibility in safeguarding adults at risk.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the participants should be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by the term ‘Safeguarding’
  • Recognise how society’s beliefs, values and attitudes towards abuse have changed over time
  • List the four main categories of abuse as well as their signs and indicators
  • Identify barriers to safeguarding
  • Respond effectively to concerns about safety and welfare following their own agency and SPB policies.
