Jersey Sport continues to inspire an active Jersey with four new Directors appointed to its Board

Wednesday 22 December 2021

The Board of Jersey Sport is delighted to announce the appointment of four new Directors, whose tenure will become effective from 1 January 2022.

These new appointees will replace Jean Cross and Tony Taylor who have served on the Board since Jersey Sport was formed in June 2017, and Sarah Madel who stepped down in July this year, having been appointed in November 2017.

Following an extensive recruitment and selection process, Jersey Sport has chosen candidates with a broad range of skills that will significantly add to the experience of the organisation’s board;  Dr Chris Edmond, Medical Director and Founder of WorkHealth (CI) Ltd who brings with him health, wellbeing and medical experience; Martin Holmes, Executive Director of Garenne Group Ltd, with a background in facility development and management experience;  Lisa McLauchlan, Chief Revenue Officer at Ocorian, experienced in strategy development and implementation, and Claudine Snape, CEO of Dementia Jersey, who brings with her marketing, charitable and fundraising experience.

Phil Austin MBE, Chairman of Jersey Sport said, “I am extremely pleased with these new appointments. Jersey Sport is now over five years old, and from a governance perspective, it made good sense to refresh the Board at this time, as we move into the next phase of the company’s development. At the same time, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Jean and Tony who both played significant roles in the formation and development of Jersey Sport, and to Sarah for her contribution.”

The Inspiring an Active Jersey Strategy launched last September, and the Inspiring Active Places Strategy launched this March, will help Jersey reach its ambition to increase physical activity within the island by 10%, by 2030. It is anticipated that new, state-of-the-art sporting and wellbeing hubs will drive people to become more physically active, whilst also encouraging local clubs to invite competing sports teams to visit the island more frequently.

Jersey Sport continues to lead on the delivery of the Inspiring an Active Jersey Strategy, working closely with the Government of Jersey to deliver their mission to inspire, lead and enable positive wellbeing for all, through lifelong engagement with Sport and Active Living.
