Over 700 pupils take part in Jersey Sport’s Primary School Festival

Tuesday 14 May 2019

Jersey Sport’s Primary School Festival hosted over 700 year five pupils this year, taking place at Fort Regent over the last two weeks.

In total, 26 Primary Schools from across the island took part in the athletics based festival where each child could collect points for their skills in set activities such as throwing, catching, running, jumping and circuit training. They also had the opportunity to use a range of professional equipment to assess themselves on grip strength, flexibility, core strength, leg power, balance and much more.

The school that accumulated the most points from their pupils over the two weeks to win the festival trophy was St. Michael’s Preparatory School.

Laura Riley, Schools, Physical Literacy and Education Lead at Jersey Sport said, “the festival is such a great opportunity for the children to get a taster of athletic based activities. Activities were carefully selected to showcase the type of core skills used within athletics so the children can learn what it’s all about and have some fun whilst exercising!”
